(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider SoftLayer Technologies (www.softlayer.com) announced on Monday it has added several new features, including hourly billing, to its recently launched CloudLayer line of cloud services.
With the introduction of an hourly billing structure to CloudLayer Computing instances, customers will now be charged at $0.10 per GB for outbound bandwidth usage.
Meanwhile, inbound and private network bandwidth is a free service as with all SoftLayer computing services.
The company has also added the capability for customers to instantly upgrade computing instances via the company’s proprietary customer portal.
Customers can upgrade core and RAM, uplink port speed, and bandwidth allocation, and additional disks from the portal.
SoftLayer says the upgrades are “processed automatically and take only a few minutes to complete.” Customers can also specify a time for the upgrade to occur.
“Our CloudLayer suite provides comprehensive and powerful on-demand computing resources,” says Nathan Day, chief technology officer for SoftLayer. “With the addition of these new service features, our customers have an even finer degree of scalability at their disposal.”
Last month, SoftLayer launched its CloudLayer line of cloud services, which lets customers deploy cloud-based computing instances within minutes.
The services include CloudLayer Computing instances, CloudLayer Storage, and CloudLayer CDN.
Each service is offered as a standalone service, or can be integrated with SoftLayer dedicated servers and automated services to create a unified computing environment.
